What is the meaning of "Mah ha'Mashal ha'Zeh"?

1.

Rashi: Why do you constantly make this Mashal? Radak ? really, it is a Melitzah; it is called Mashal because it was constantly in their mouths, like a Mashal.

2.

Malbim: They took a Mashal and comparison from predictions of astrologers. Sometimes their words do not come. Hashem said, this is improper for you, Beis Yisrael ? you are not under Mazal, rather, under Hashgachah.

2)

Why did He say "Lachem"? Did also Yechezkel make this Mashal?!

1.

Radak #1: This is like He told Moshe "Ad Anah Me'antem 1 " (Shemos 16:28).

2.

Radak #2: Hashem told Yechezkel to say so to Yisrael.

3.

Malbim: Refer to 12:22:1:2.

1

Bava Kama 92a: When uprooting the thorn, also the cabbage is stricken (Resha'im's neighbors suffer with them). Rashi (16:28) brings this, but he also brought (16:22) that Moshe was blamed because he had not told Yisrael that manna will not fall on Shabbos. (PF)

3)

Why does it add "Al Admas Yisrael"?

1.

Malbim: Your Mashal (refer to 12:22:1:2) is improper for Eretz Yisrael. It is not under the Ma'arachah, rather, "Eretz Asher Hashem Elokecha Doresh Osah" (Devarim 11:12)

4)

Why did they say "Ya'archu ha'Yamim"?

1.

Rashi: Many days will pass, and the punishment will not come 1 . The bad Nevu'ah will be lost and forgotten. Radak ? they intended to anger Hashem. They knew that they will be exiled from the land when they do idolatry, theft and murder, but they supported themselves from the false Nevi'im's promises [that punishment will not come].

2.

Malbim: (a) The future that astrologers predict, which must come based on the Ma'arachah, are tied to time. When time extends, the Ma'arachah changes, and obligates the opposite of what they saw earlier. (b) Their predictions are tied to natural causes. If one of the causes changes over time, the prediction will not come ? "v'Avad Kol Chazon."

1

Radak: This is like they say "Lo v'Karov Benos Batim" (11:3).
