Why will Micha'el stand?
Rashi: He will be like a mute when he sees Hashem judging – how can I destroy a great nation like this for the sake of Yisrael?!
Ibn Ezra: This is when "Di Charsavan Remiv v'Atik Yomin Yesiv" (7:9). Micha'el stood only to topple the chairs of Malchei Yishmael – "ha'Omed Al Bnei Amecha."
Malbim: When Ma'areches ha'Shamayim and nature obligate that Yisrael be totally eradicated, Micha'el stands via miraculous Hashgachah, which overrides the Ma'arachah. He is above the Sarim that conduct the Ma'arachah.
Why is it a time of affliction?
Rashi: There is affliction in the Pamalia Shel Ma'alah (Heavenly entourage), accusations against Chachamim, and looters upon looters (Kesuvos 112b).
Ibn Ezra: It is affliction for the entire world. [Yisrael] will be saved only because Micha'el is ha'Sar ha'Gadol on Yisrael.
Malbim: This is based on the Ma'arachah.
What is the consequence of "Yimalet Amecha"?
Rashi: Malchus Aram will perish, and Yisrael will be saved.
Malbim: The Tzadikim of Yisrael will be saved (refer to 12:1:4:2).
Who are "Kol ha'Nimtza Kasuv ba'Sefer"?
Rashi: This is abbreviated. It means, all found written in this Sefer, via the dreams in it – "Ad Di Ketilas Cheivesa" , "vi'Ykablun Malchusa Kadishei Elyonin" (7:11, 18).
Ibn Ezra: They are Tzadikim – "[Az Nedaberu Yir'ei Hashem…] va'Yikasev Sefer Zikaron Lefanav l'Yir'ei Hashem." Malbim - or, "Kol ha'Kasuv l'Chayim bi'Yerushalayim."
