What is the meaning of "La'ador"?
'Rashi' #1: This is literally to dig. Amidst this, they stand there like ranks of war.
'Rashi' #2: This is to wage war.
Radak: This is to arrange. The same applies to "Odrei Ma'arachah" (verse 39) and "va'Adarim la'Averos" (Divrei ha'Yamim II, 32:28). This is why an arrangement of flock animals is called Eder.
Malbim: A war protocol is for the camps to stand arranged each man opposite his colleague, but even so their hearts were totally united against the enemy.
Why does it say "b'Lo Lev va'Lev"?
'Rashi', Radak, both citing Vayikra Rabah 25:2: Whether or not they intended, they were victorious.
Radak: They did not have two intents. Their hearts were completely with David.
Malbim: Refer to 12:34:1:4.
