What do we learn from "v'Yoser Hayah Koheles Chacham Od Limed Da'as Es ha'Am"?
Torah Temimah citing Eruvin 21b: He taught Simanim (ways to remember things), reasons and analogies.
Rav Sadya Gaon: The advantage of Shlomo's Chachmah was that he did not cease to benefit people from it.
Rashi: His Chachmah was more than is written in this Sefer.
Ibn Ezra: "Od" teaches constantly, like "Od Tum'aso Bo" (Bamidbar 19:13).
Ibn Ezra (7:3): Some say that "Koheles" is like "Kehilas Yakov" (Devarim 33:4) - a collection of Chachamim wrote the Sefer; each said what he thought 1 .
Rashbam: More than these Chachmos, he taught Chachmah orally, in order that people will know and grow wise.
Rid: Just like he was exceedingly Chacham, he taught people exceedingly. "Od" is like "va'Yevk Al Tzavaro Od" (Bereishis 46:29).
Seforno: Just like he was wiser than other Chachamim of his generation, he strived more than them to teach Da'as to the nation.
Metzudas David: In addition to being a bigger Chacham, he had another attribute - he taught others.
Ibn Ezra: This is wrong. "V'Yoser Hayah Koheles Chacham" (12:9) shows that he was one person! Also, it says "Bikesh Koheles Limtzo Divrei Chefetz", "Ani Koheles Hayisi Melech" (12:10, 1:12)!
What do we learn from "v'Izen v'Chiker Tiken Meshalim Harbe"?
Rashi, mostly from Yevamos 21a: Before Shlomo, the Torah was like a basket without Oznayim (handles). Shlomo made handles for it. He enacted fences for guarding Shabbos, enacted Netilas Yadayim to guard Taharah, and decreed Sheniyos (Arayos mid'Rabanan), for a fence for Torah Arayos.
Rav Sadya Gaon: He was meticulous, fixed and established many matters.
Ibn Ezra #1: He composed songs, or compositions of Chachmah.
Ibn Ezra #2: Izen is like Oznayim; he made heard 1 . Chiker is Po'el Yotzei Shelishi 2 . He taught people ways to investigate Chachmah. "Va'Ydaber Sheloshes Alafim Mashal 3 " (Melachim I, 5:12).
Rashbam: He puts to his ears and heart to investigate worldly matters and Chachmos, and established Sefer Mishlei.
Rid, Metzudas David: He caused people to hear [Chachmah], he investigated, and "va'Ydaber Sheloshes Alafim Mashal."
Seforno: He taught people ways to investigate words of previous Chachamim.
Metzudas Tziyon: Izen is like "Ha'azinu ha'Shamayim" (Devarim 32:1).
I.e. one causes a second to act on a third party. (PF)
Seforno: The Meshalim help people to understand indirectly.
