What is the word "Kol Yemei" coming to include

1.

Sifra: It includes someone who removed the Nega on purpose in the Din of "Badad Yeishev", 1

1

See Torah Temimah, note 189.

2)

Why does the Torah insert the (otherwise superfluous) wotds "Tamei Hu"?

1.

Sifra: To incorporate other Metzora'im (in addtion to Korachas and Gabachas) in the Din of "Badad Yeishev".

3)

What are the connotations of "Badad Yeishev"?

1.

Rashi: It means that he must dwell alone. He may not mix with other people 1 even with other Temei'im. 2

2.

Targum Yonasan: It includes a prohibition against being intimate with his wife. 3

1

Refer to 13:46:152:1-2 & 14:2:5:1.

2

See Sifsei Chachamim.

3

See Na'ar Yonasan.

4)

To which Machaneh is "mi'Chutz la'Machaneh Moshavo" referring?

1.

Rashi: It refers to all three camps 1 (Machaneh Shechinah, Machaneh Leviyah and Machaneh Yisrael), 2 as opposed to other Teme'im, who are only obligated to leave one or two of the three camps. 3

1

See Sifsei Chachamim.

2

This is equivalent to outside the walls in which the Metzora lives - after they captured Eretz Yisrael, as we find in Melachim 2, 7:3 (Rashi there).

3

See Torah Temimah, note 194.

5)

Why does the Torah add the (otherwise superfluous) word "mi?Chutz la?Machaneh Moshavo"?

1.

Sifra: To teach us that a Metzora is Metamei be'Bi'ah (similar to Ohel) - If, for example, he is sitting under a tree and the Tahor person is standing (passing) 1 , but not vice-versa.

1

See Torah Temimah, note 198.

6)

Bearing in mind that a Tamei Meis may enter the Machaneh Yisrael and the Machaneh Levi'ah, why must the Metzora dwell alone?

1.

Rashi: Since he separated man and wife and man from his friend with his Lashon ha'Ra, 1 he is separated from society. 2

2.

Da'as Zekenim and Hadar Zekenim: It is a contagious illness 3 (which afflicts even someone who merely speaks with him - Moshav Zekenim). 4

1

See Ba'al ha'Turim.

2

See Oznayim la'Torah, who explains at length how this is Midah ke'Neged Midah - to atone for the Metzora's shunning of society by his being cut-off from society and how he now pines for the society that he previously shunned.

3

Da'as Zekenim and Hadar Zekenim: Which explains why he is forbidden to have relations with his wife (refer to 13:46:1:2),.

4

If so, why do we postpone examining Tzara'as on a Chasan, or on Yom-Tov - seeing as he will mix with many people? Moreover, why do we declare Tahor someone whose entire body is covered with Tzara'as! Perhaps when the Torah permits it, no harm will result - just like foods that are Metamtem (blunt) the heart, if they are permitted through Bitul, are not Metamtem (Taz YD 112:9). (PF)

QUESTIONS ON RASHI

7)

Rashi writes that the Metzora is sent out of three camps, including Machaneh Shechinah. But even a Tahor may not enter Machaneh Shechinah?

1.

Riva: Machaneh Shechinah is the Azarah. A Tahor may enter there for Shechitas Pesach. 1

1

Riva: 2

Only kings of Beis David are permitted to sit there - to delay (R"M mi'Kutzi).
