What is "Beis ha'Mahpeches"?
'Rashi': It is a prison.
Asa's heart was pure (15:17). Why did he get angry at the Navi?
Ralbag: The Ro'eh did not show honor to the king, the way Nevi'im did not 1 show honor to the king.
Gra: The Ro'eh did not say Ko Amar Hashem like all Nevi'im did. It seemed that the Ro'eh spoke on his own, for also the nation rebuked him for this!
Malbim: The Ro'eh did not say this in the name of Hashem. It seemed that he did not give a Nevu'ah, rather, he rebuked based on intellect and Emunah. This is why he is called Ro'eh, and not Chozeh (one who saw a Divine vision). Also, the Ro'eh spoke b'Za'af 2 .
What is his source? Even Moshe was commanded to show honor to Pharaoh (Shemos Rabah 7:7, Rashi Shemos 11:8)! If this was normal, why did Asa get angry more than other kings? Perhaps the text should say 'the way Nevi'im showed honor to the king.' (PF)
It is as if it says b'Za'af Diber Imo. The simple meaning is like Metzudas David explains, that Asa was b'Za'af with the Ro'eh for saying so. Also "Imo" is difficult for Malbim; we do not find that Asa spoke with him! (PF)
What is the meaning of "va'Yratzetz"?
Targum Yonasan: He subjugated.
Metzudas Tziyon: He broke. This is like "Kaneh ha'Ratzutz" (Melachim II, 18:21).
Why did Asa punish the nation?
Radak: He was angry with everyone due to the Nevu'ah that he heard.
Ralbag: The Ro'eh spoke angrily at Asa, so he gathered people with him. Asa was angry at them.
Gra: Also the nation rebuked him for this.
