Rashi: Because it was the man's hatred that caused him to lie in wait for his friend - to teach us that 'Aveirah Goreres Aveirah' (one sin leads to another) - Because he transgressed the La'av of "Lo Sisna" he will go on to transgress that of "Lo Sirtzach!".
Why does the Torah insert the (otherwise superfluous) words "Ve'arav lo"?
Sanhedrin, 79a: To preclude from the Din of Misah someone who throws a stone into a group of people and kills one of them. 1
See Torah Temimah, note 24.
Seeing as the Arei Miklat are towns of refuge for murderers be'Shogeg, what is the murderer be'Meizid doing running there?
Makos, 10b: Initially, whoever killed had to run to an Ir Miklat, from where he woud be taken to Beis-Din, who would ascertain as to whether he killed be'Meizid, in which case they would hand him over to the Go'el ha'Dam to be killed, 1 or Shogeg, in which case they would return him to the Ir Miklat. 2
