What is the meaning of "v'Gadalti v'Hisafti"?
Ibn Ezra: Gadalti is Po'el Omed (the action applies only to the subject). I was great in all my matters. I added grandeur in worldly matters.
Rashbam: I grew in wealth, to do all these matters with my wealth and honor.
Seforno: I grew in the eyes of the Goyim, and added to the norm - "va'Ya'as ha'Melech Kisei Shen; ? Lo Na'aseh Chen l'Chol Mamlachos" (Melachim I, 10:18, 20).
Metzudas David: I did wondrous deeds, with great addition, over all kings who ruled before me in Yerushalayim.
Why does it say "Af Chachmasi"?
Rav Sadya Gaon: Due to the foundation of my knowledge and Chachmah.
Rashi: Also my Chachmah - I did not abandon it due to all these deeds.
Rashbam: I also had Chachmah [of worldly matters]. Both of them are Hevel in my eyes. The three things that Hashem gave to me - wealth, Chachmah and life - are all Hevel. Our verse mentions wealth and Chachmah 1 ; below discusses life - "v'Saneisei Es ha'Chayim" (17).
Yalkut Shimoni (968): Torah that I learned b'Af 2 , it lasted in me.
What do we learn from "Amdah Li"?
Rashi #1: I did not forget [my Chachmah due to all these distractions - Metzudas David].
Rashi #2: It helped me more than all of these.
Ri Kara: My Chachmah helped me to do all these.
Rid, Seforno: Even though I engaged in pleasure, I did not slacken from Chachmah.
Yalkut Shimoni (968): It lasted in me. Metzudas Tziyon - Amdah is like "Lishmor Es Briso Le'amdah" (Yechezkel 17:14).
