What are the implications of the double Lashon, "Shabbas Shabbason"?
Refer to Shemos 31:15:2:1-4.
Oznayim la'Torah (citing Pirkei de'R. Eliezer): 'Were it not for Yom Kipur, the world would not exist, since, based on the double Lashon "Shabbas Shabbason", Yom Kipur atones both in this world and in the world to come - "Shabbos" in this world, "Shabbason" in the world to come. 1
Oznayim la'Torah: Consequently, even if all the Yamim-Tovim are negated, Yom Kipur will remain intact.
Why does the Torah here write "Shabbas Shabbason Hu ... ", when in Acharei-Mos (16:31) it wrote "Hi"?
Rashi (in Yoma 81b): The Pasuk in Acharei-Mos is referring to the Menuchah of Shabbos.
Oznayim la'Torah: Because, whereas here, it is referring to the day, in Acharei-Mos it is referring to the word "Eis" (which is feminine) in 16:2.
Seeing as Yom Kipur is on the tenth, why does the Torah write "be'Tish'ah la'Chodesh"?
Targum Yonasan and Rosh Hashanah 9a: To teach us that one must begin the fast before nightfall. 1
Berachos 8b: To teach us that whoever eats and drinks on the ninth of Tishri, it is considered as if he had fasted on the ninth and the tenth. 2
Why does the Torah add the (otherwise superfluous) words "Tishbesu Shabbatechem"?
Targum Yonasan and Rosh Hashanah 9a: To teach us that one should begin Shabbas and every Yom-Tov 1 before nightfall 2 , (and that one should celebrate all the Mo'adim with joy - Targum Yonasan).
Rosh Hashanah 9a: " Tishbesu" incorporates Shabbos (Tosfos Shabbos) and " Shabbatechem", Yom-Tov (Tosfos Yom-Tov) in the obligation of adding a short time before nightfall.
In order to resolve "b'Tish'ah la'Chodesh," the Gemara in Rosh Hashanah 9a concludes that one must begin the fast before nightfall. Why is this different than " ba'Erev Tochlu Matzos" (in Bo, Shemos 12:18) with reference to the fourteenth of Nisan), which means at nighttime?
Moshav Zekenim (on Pasuk 27) #1: There, the Mitzvah to eat Matzah is written after "ba'Erev". Here, Inuy is written before "b'Tish'ah", which implies that it applies during the day.
Moshav Zekenim (on Pasuk 27) #2: Here is different, for it says "[v'Inisem b'Tish'ah la'Chodesh] ba'Erev, me'Erev ad Erev [Tishbesu]" The Pasuk implies that we fast on the ninth, and at night we cease Melachah.
