1)

What was Eliezer?s rgument for returning to Charan?

1.

Malbim: There are two reasons why she would not want to come: 1. Going with a slave [would not be respectable]; 2. She may not want to leave her father's house to go far away. So he was suggesting that he should take Yitzchak there to marry Rivkah, stay a few years, 1 and then return.

1

Malbim (in Pasuk 8): To which Avraham replied that even if she refuses to go with a slave, you may not send Yitzchak there even for one day to bring her here.

2)

How could Eliezer discuss returning Yitzchak to there? Yitzchak had never been there!

1.

Riva #1: Since (one of) the Avos 1 was once there, it is called returning.

2.

Riva #2, Rosh, Hadar Zekenim (to 24:8): It would be a return for Eliezer, so if he would bring Yitzchak there, it is appropriate to call this returning.

3.

Malbim: There are two reasons why she would not want to come. (a) Going with a slave [is not honorable]. (b) She must leave her father's house to go far away. Perhaps I may take Yitzchak there to marry her, stay a few years, 2 and then return here!

1

Moshav Zekenim: Since Yitzchak's father was once there, it is called returning.

2

Malbim (to 24:8): Avraham answered that even if she refuses to go with a slave, you may not send Yitzchak there even for one day to take her to here.
