What are "ha'Alos"?
'Rashi' citing R. Yitzchak bar Shmuel: They are pestles in which spices are crushed 1 , like "Im Tichtosh Es ha'Evil ba'Machtesh" (Mishlei 27:22).
'Rashi': Some say that they are boards on which they cut meat. [Beis Shamai] forbid moving [on Shabbos] an Eli on which we chop meat (Beitzah 11a).
Radak: They are small Kelim used to draw water from the Hin measure for Nesachim. We find that Rebbi's Shifchah used to talk with Chachmah ? 'Alas Nakafas b'Chad' (Eruvin 53b; the Kli used to draw wine bangs on the bottom of the barrel, i.e. the wine in the barrel is finished). It says also Teleisar Ilisa d'Dinari (Shabbos 119a; 13 Kelim of coins).
How could they use the money for Kelim? "Lo Ye'aseh Beis Hashem Sipos Kesef" (Melachim II, 12:14)!
'Rashi', Radak: Kesuvos 106b asks this [and answers that Bedek ha'Bayis money may not be used for Kelim, but when they collect, Beis Din stipulates that if not all is needed for Bedek ha'Bayis, the excess will not receive Kedushas Bedek ha'Bayis, and it may be used for Kelim.]
Malbim: There it discusses Terumas ha'Lishkah, which may not be used for Kelim. Here it discusses Shekalim from previous years, which are l'Chatchilah for Bedek ha'Bayis.
