Why is Yetzi'as Mitzrayim mentioned in connection with the La'av of Ribis?

1.

Rashi #1: To teach us that, just as in the last plague prior to the Exodus, Hashem discerned between a B'chor and a non-B'chor 1 , so too, will He pick out the person who lends his money to a Yisrael and claims that it belongs to a Nochri - and punish him.

2.

Rashi #2: To remind us that Hashem took us out of Egypt on condition that we observe His Mitzvos, even if they are sometimes difficult to keep. 2

1

Even though the women committed adultery with different men (Rashi Sh'mos 12:30), Hashem knew from whose semen each baby was conceived. See Torah Temimah, note 200.

2

Refer to 25:26:3:1.

2)

Why does the Torah insert "Laseis lachem es Eretz Cana'an ... " here?

1.

Rashi #1: Because Hashem gave it to us as a reward for keeping the Mitzvos.

2.

Rashi #2: Refer to 25:38:3:1.

3.

Kesuvos, 110b: The Torah inserts "la'Seis La'chem es Eretz Cana'an Lih'yos la'chem l'Elokim" to teach us that it is preferable to live in Eretz Yisrael, even in a town with a majority of Nochrim, than in Chutz la'Aretz, in a town with a majority of Yisrael.

3)

Why does The Torah insert the phrase "Lih'yos lachem l'Elokim"?

1.

Rashi: With reference to the previous phrase, it teaches us that Hashem is the G-d of whoever lives in Eretz Yisrael, and that leaving Eretz Yisrael is akin to worshipping Avodah-Zarah. 1

2.

Seforno: This is the main objective towards which one should strive, and it is best achieved by helping one another to ensure that communal life functions smoothly.

1

The Rosh (citing Kesuvos 110b-111a) brings many attributes of living in Eretz Yisrael and being buried there.. See also Torah Temimah, note 201.

4)

How did Cana'an merit that Eretz Yisrael is named after him?

1.

Rosh (in Bamidbar 15:2): When the Cana'anim 1 heard that Yisrael were coming, they cleared out of the land, Hashem declared 'You cleared out of the land 2 ? it will therefore be called on your name, and I will give you a land almost as good as yours -. Afrika.

1

The Yerushalmi (Shevi'is 6:1) says this about the Girgashi! Perhaps Cana'an merited this due to Girgashi, his son (PF).

2

This can only refer to the indivudual nation cslled 'Cana'ani', not to all the seven nations of Cana'an. Otherwise, Yisrael would have had nobody left to fight!
