What are "Berushim"?
Metzudas Tziyon: It is an esteemed barren tree (pine).
Where is "Senir"?
Rashi (from Targum Onkelos Devarim 3:9): It is the mountain of snow. 1 Radak ? the nice Berushim grow there.
That verse says that Senir is Chermon. (PF)
What are "Luchosayim"?
Rashi: The boards from which the boat is made.
Radak citing Targum Yonasan: They are bridges on which they pass from boat to boat.
"Luchosayim" is plural, and it also implies a pair. What is the reason?
Radak #1: It is because the increase is made in pairs.
Radak #2: A boat is made of two parts ? both ends are pointy.
Radak citing Ibn Ezra: There are boats made from two planks.
Why does it say that the cedar is from Levanon?
Rashi: There is a forest there in which cedars are common.
What is "Toren"?
Rashi: It is the mast ? a tall erect wooden beam inserted in a boat on which they hang the sail. It has holes at its end through which is put the rope used to pull the boat.
Why does it say "Alecha"?
Radak: It means, on your boats.
Why is Tzor compared to a boat?
Rashi: It was built in the sea and was lost in the sea, so the Navi compares it to a quality boat whose load was too great, and it sank in an east wind.
Radak: All its good came via the sea in boats, therefore the Navi praises her boats. Its planks were from Berushim for grandeur and beauty.
Malbim (5, 7): It discusses a boat that it and its Kelim were prepared from materials from different lands ? the Berushim for the planks were from Senir, the cedars for the mast were from Levanon? 1 So Tzor's wealth, honor and beauty were not from itself, rather, from commerce with many nations and distant islands!
Verses 6 and 7 mention other parts of the boat that came from other lands. (PF)
