What is "Atun Nura"?

Rashi: It is a crater in which they burn rocks for plaster. It is called Kivshan (furnace) in Tanach.

Why will they throw in the furnace one who does not bow?

Malbim: It is for rebelling against the king's word. Also, it is to burn the rebel and remove him from the world, lest his rebellion affect the eternal kingship 1 .
