What do we learn from "Ki Marbis ha'Am..."?

1.

Malbim: Most of the Tzibur was Tamei, so they brought Pesach b'Tum'ah.

2)

What is the meaning of "Ki Achlu Es ha'Pesach b'Lo cha'Kasuv"?

1.

'Rashi': They ate it b'Tum'ah 1 . Radak - a Tamei who ate Kodesh is Chayav Kares - "v'Tum'aso Alav v'Nichresah."

1

Malbim (22): Rashi holds that this was Pesach Sheni, which may not be eaten b'Tum'ah. (Refer to 30:3:1:1 and the note there. Malbim himself explains that it was Pesach Rishon b'Tum'ah. The Torah permitted this! Perhaps "b'Lo cha'Kasuv" means that it was not l'Chatchilah. - PF)

3)

What is the meaning of "Yechaper b'Ad"?

1.

Redak: This is read with the start of the coming verse "Kol Levavo Hechin." Malbim - even though his Korban was not Tahor, Hashem should consider his prepared heart, even though his body is not prepared [and atone for him].

2.

Radak citing Ibn Ezra: This is not read with what comes after. Rather, he prayed that Hashem atone for those who ate Pesach b'Tum'ah, since they prepared their hearts to seek Hashem 1 .

3.

Malbim citing Sanhedrin 12a-b: He prayed that Hashem forgive him, for he was Me'aber the year improperly (due to Tum'ah, or on Adar 30, which is proper to be Nisan), or for persuading Yisrael to offer Pesach Sheni 2 .

1

Radak brought that Ibn Ezra explains "Kol Levavo Hechin Lidrosh" to teach about Chizkiyah. If so, what is the source that those who ate b'Tum'ah prepared their hearts? (PF)

2

Malbim: Seemingly, this is unlike the simple meaning, that he prayed that Hashem pardon Yisraelim who ate b'Tum'ah. Really, they are the same. Had everyone become Tahor, he would not need to pray for himself, since b'Di'eved the year is Me'uberes. Since they did not all become Tehorim, he was Me'aber improperly, and it did not help, so he requested pardon also for himself.
