What does the Torah mean when it writes that Moshe gave the area of Gil'ad to Machir ben Menasheh?
1.
Ramban: Although the simple explanation is that Moshe gave it to Machir's desscendents, it may well mean that he gave it to Machir himself, 1 in which case Machir lived more than two hundred and fifty years - and did not die with the generation of the spies, since he was over sixty when the decree was issued.

See Ramban, who explains the Pasuk in Yehoshua, 17:1 in the same way.
