Why did Shechem offer them such liberal terms ("Harbu Alai Mohar u'Matan... !")?

1.

Malbim: It was so they would give her to him willingly. 1

2.

Seforno: It was a form of atonement for having raped Dinah, thereby sinning against her family.

1

Bearing in mind Dinah's ongoing protests (EC). Refer to 34:3:2:2.

2)

What is the definition of "Mohar" and "Matan"?

1.

Rashi: "Mohar" means 'the Kesuvah.' Ha'amek Davar adds - "Matan" is [gifts] for her family.

3)

Why was Shechem not afraid that her brothers would take her back or that they would perform some other act of revenge?

1.

Ramban: He was not afraid that they would cause him harm since he was a prince and felt secure in is position. Nor did he suspect that would take her back, because he had already taken her to his palace, where she was safely ensconced.

4)

What happened to Dinah in the end?

1.

Ramban: It seems that after Shimon and Levi killed the town of Shechem, Dinah went to live with her brothers like a permanent widow, since she had been defiled. 1 Although the Midrash cites various opinions as to her fate, the most likely is that Shimon took her into his house and that eventually, she went with her brothers down to Egypt, where she died. And when they left Egypt, the tribe of Shimon took her bones with them. In any event, we know that she is buried in the town Arbe'el, next to the grave of Nitai ha'Arbeli (Ramban).

2.

Some say that she married Iyov (see Bava Basra 15b). 2

1

In fact, she became pregnant from Shechem, and gave birth to a daughter named Asenas, who somehow ended up in Egypt, and married her uncle Yosef (Targum Yonasan to 41:45). Others maintain that Dinah refused to leave Shechem until Shimon promised to marry her, and that Asenas was the daughter of Shimon and Dinah (See Rashi to 46:10; refer to 46:10:151 and the note there.)

2

How could a Tzadekes tell Iyov, "Barech (curse) Elokim and die!" (Iyov 2:9)? Maharal (Chidushei Agados to Bava Basra 15a (end)) - Yaakov could not be totally perfect. His sons were pure, but he had a daughter, and a shortcoming clung to her (the Satan). She wanted to her husband to be like her; the Satan would cling to him, and he would die. Ein Eliyahu (in Likutim in Ein Yaakov) - she suggested that he bless Hashem for the good he had received, and kill himself. This is permitted if one fears lest afflictions lead him to sin. Refer to 9:5:1:3.

5)

Why did he call her a Na'arah now?

1.

Ha'amek Davar: This is lest they say that it is not yet time for her to marry, or she is prone to become weak. He said, we recognize that she is a Na'arah, and proper to marry [now].
