After it says "Mikneihem," what does "v'Chol Behemtam" include?
Ramban #1: Mikneihem 1 is flocks or herds in the field, whether Tamei or Tahor. They constitute a person's major possessions. 2 "V'Chol Behemtam" includes single animals in the house.
Ramban #2: It is just doubling the expression for emphasis - all their many animals!
Ha'amek Davar: It includes non-domesticated animals.
On what basis did Chamor and Shechem say to the people, "Mikneihem v'Kinyanam... ha'Lo Lanu Hem!"?
Oznayim la'Torah: Don't worry, if a Nochri wants a Jew's hard-earned wealth, he'll soon find a way to prove that it all belongs to him and the Jew stole it, (like the sons of Lavan claimed that all Yaakov's wealth came from their father). Moreover, he said that to the people after having just told both Yaakov's sons and them how they would merge into one nation and share their resources! 1
Malbim: Afterwards, we will say that we want to expel them and not intermarry with them, and they will give all they have to dwell with us.
"Asher Pihem Diber Shav!" (Tehilim 144:8).
QUESTIONS ON RASHI
Rashi writes: "'Let us but acquiesce to them' - ... over this matter, and thereby, 'they will dwell among us.'" What is Rashi adding?
Gur Aryeh: We should not interpret as, 'Let us but agree that they should [be permitted] to dwell among us;' for Bnei Yaakov had never requested to live among the Shechemites. 1 Rather, it means, 'Let us agree to be circumcised; and thereby they will dwell among us [and we will gain their assets, etc.].'
On the contrary, they wanted nothing more than to take Dinah and go! (34:17).
