Why does the Torah insert the (otherwise superfluous) words "mi'Lifnei Moshe"?

Lev Eliyahu (p.226): Just as, whoever sees a drunkard swaying while he walks, knows what he was doing, so too, on the side of good, whoever looked at B'nei Yisrael after they left Moshe's presence, could tell that they had been in front of Moshe.
