What is "Tochachah"?

Rashi: It is an ordeal. The enemy boasts about their success, to say 'our hand is exalted; there is no god like our god.'

Malbim: He argues and 'proves' that Hashem cannot save. If He does not save, they will say that it is because He lacks power!

What is "Ne'atzah"?

Malbim: Yeshayah (10:12) said that Ashur will fall in Yerushalayim, after (a) he will blaspheme and boast about his conquests; (b) Tziyon will reach the darkest part of the night, the bleakest affliction. Chizkiyah said that both have been fulfilled - "Yom Tzarah (the enemy is in front of Yerushalayim)

Who are the Banim?

1.

Rashi: They are Bnei Yisrael, Hashem's children.

Radak: They are fetuses about to be born.

What is the meaning of "Va'u Vanim Ad Mashber v'Cho'ach Ayin l'Ledah"?

1.

Rashi: Yisrael's affliction is like a woman on the birthing stone, and she lacks strength to give birth.

Radak (Melachim II, 19:3): The fetuses came to the womb, from where they must leave. The birthpangs are greatest then, but if the mother cannot strengthen herself to give birth, she has no hope for relief. So we cannot escape [our affliction] if Hashem will not help us!

Malbim: Yisrael are like a woman on the birthing stone. The birthpangs are great, but this is a sign that the birth is close. Also we know that the salvation is close! However, we lack both the human strength and merit for Divine help, i.e. Mitzvos and good deeds.

What is "Leledah"?

Targum Yonasan: It is to give birth.
