That refers to taking coals for the sake of burning Ketores! Rashi (Melachim I, 7:50) said that this is another use of the Machtos. (PF)

Radak (Melachim I, 7:50, citing Targum Yonasan): They are the hinge-pins of the doors. They were of gold.
