What are "Alemos"?

1.

Rashi: They are arches.

2.

Vilna Gaon: They are Ulamos 25 Amos long.

2)

What do we learn from "Saviv Saviv"?

1.

Rashi: This wall consisted of arches that entered its thickness 1 (Hagahah ? above the cells, for the cells were in Chatzer ha'Penimi, for Ulam ha'Sha'ar jutted into the outer Chatzer. The cells and Ulam could not face the same direction, so that the cells' openings would open to the Ulam, for the measures of the outer and inner gates are the same. The only difference is the protrusion of the Ulamos.) The cells were outside, and six cells and their walls and 15 Amos of the width of the gate is 81 (Hagahah ? it should say 91) in all, and the entire Chatzer ha'Penimi was only 100 by 100 2 .

2.

Radak: The Alemos were built around the wall, or in the interior of the wall.

3.

Vilna Gaon: In every gate there were Ulamos opposite the cells, extending for 25 Amos.

4.

Malbim: The Alemos were in Ezras Yisrael.

1

Malbim: The verses imply that they extended into the Chatzer, like other buildings mentioned!

2

The Ulamos could not face inside, between the cells and the gate, for they would not fit in the remaining nine Amos of the width of Chatzer ha'Penimi. (PF) -

What was 25 Amos long?

1.

Radak: In all, the Alemos occupied 25 Amos along the length of the wall.

2.

Malbim: The Alemos occupied 25 Amos in each direction.

4)

What was five Amos wide?

1.

Radak: Each Ulam (Vilna Gaon ? i.e. the space between cells). This was not mentioned regarding Chatzer ha'Chitzonah!
