1)

From where did He take him?

1.

Rashi: From Chatzer ha'Penimi.

2)

To where in Chatzer ha'Chitzonah was he taken?

1.

Rashi, Targum Yonasan: To the northern gate mentioned above (40:23). It was in the middle of the length of Ezras Yisrael, which was 100 Amos.

2.

Malbim: Chatzer ha'Chitzonah was 326 Amos from north to south. From the wall of the Chatzer ha'Chitzonah to the wall of the Chatzer ha'Penimi in the north was 100, and also in the south. The interior of Chatzer ha'Penimi was 100, and each of its two walls was 13. I say that also from east to west had to be 326. There were 100 from the eastern wall of Chatzer ha'Chitzonah until the eastern wall of Chatzer ha'Penimi. That wall was 13 thick. Chatzer ha'Penimi was 100 Amos from that wall until the Ulam. There were 100 from the wall of the Ulam until the end of the western cell Achorei Beis ha'Kapores, which is part of the western wall of Chatzer ha'Penimi. This is 313; 13 Amos remain in back of that wall until the western wall of Chatzer ha'Chitzonah. In Bayis Sheni there were 11 Amos there. The gap between the wall of the Chatzitzah and the wall of the Chatzer ha'Penimi is Ezras Yisrael; it was 100 Amos. However, opposite the Ulam and Heichal it was 13 wider, for the 100 of Ezras Yisrael excluded the walls; the 100 of Chatzer ha'Penimi opposite the Ulam and Heichal included the walls of Chatzer ha'Penimi. The 13 Amos in the east there that received the status of Ezras Yisrael (and were deducted from Chatzer ha'Penimi), their compensation was the 13 Amos in back of Achorei Beis ha'Kapores. Just like it was 113 long, it was 113 wide.

3)

Did he go to a particular chamber?

1.

Hagahah in Rashi: Yes. Vilna Gaon ? it was a chamber 100 Amos long.

2.

Rashi: No. He went to a block of chambers north of the Bayis. They were 20 Amos from the cells, like it says above "u'Vein ha'Leshachos Rochav Esrim Amah Saviv la'Bayis" (41:10). The only way to enter those chambers or the 20 Amos between them and the cells is via Chatzer ha'Chitzonah, like it explains below (4). Chatzer ha'Penimi was a square 100 by 100 in front of the Bayis, to the east (40:47). It turns out that the Bayis seals the width of Chatzer ha'Penimi. One cannot enter from the side of Beis ha'Chalifos to the north or south, therefore he needed to come to the chambers via the northern side of Chatzer ha'Chitzonah.

3.

Malbim: Yes. Refer to 42:1:4:2

4)

Where is "Asher Neged ha'Gizrah [va'Asher Neged ha'Binyan]"?

1.

Rashi: The chambers were opposite all 100 Amos of the Bayis' length, from east to west, like it says "v'Hinei Al Pnei ha'Heichal Me'ah Amah" (8).

2.

Malbim: These are Lishkos ha'Esrim 1 , which were near and open to Kir Chatzer ha'Penimi opposite ha'Gizrah veha'Binyan (the cells and the Heichal). It does not say Neged Kir Chatzer ha'Penimi, for it is before ha'Gizrah veha'Binyan. The singular "ha'Lishkah" teaches the chamber in the east whose opening was opposite the Ulam. In the east, the Ulam was open to the cells. It was in line with the openings of the cells to each other. Opposite this opening in Kir Chatzer ha'Penimi was an opening to the chamber of Lishkos ha'Esrim on the east, opposite the Ulam. One who stood in this chamber could see Pesach ha'Ulam, so "u'Shachto Pesach Ohel Mo'ed" applied; one could slaughter Kodshim Kalim there. He took him out via this opening to this chamber.

1

Malbim: For 20 Amos outside the wall of the Chatzer ha'Penimi were chambers open to Kir Chatzer ha'Penimi, and they received Kedushas ha'Azarah to eat Kodshei Kodoshim there. They were called Lishkos ha'Esrim for they were 20 wide including their walls; they extended the entire 100 Amos of Kir Chatzer ha'Penimi. There was one Amah open in back of them to the side of Chatzer ha'Chitzonah. Via it, they could leave the chambers to Chatzer ha'Chitzonah "Derech Amah Achas" (4). Opposite Lishkos ha'Esrim were Lishkos ha'Me'ah ? they were 100 long and 50 wide. There was a path of 10 Amos between Lishkos ha'Esrim and Lishkos ha'Me'ah. On the other side of Lishkos ha'Me'ah by Kir Chatzer ha'Chitzonah was a Ritzpah with chambers on it, like the Ritzpah and chambers in Chatzer ha'Chitzonah opposite Ezras Yisrael (40:18. The Ritzpah was on the side of the gates of the lower Ritzpah, to exclude the upper Ritzpah higher on the mountain ? it was opposite the entire outer wall. These chambers were four Amos wide, and were Meshulashim (there were three stories of them, one on top of another). Also Lishkos ha'Esrim and Lishkos ha'Me'ah were Meshulashim.

5)

What do we learn from "El ha'Tzafon"?

1.

Malbim: From this chamber, He took him out via the opening of the Chatzer in back of this chamber, in the strip one Amah wide, to Chatzer ha'Chitzonah in the north.
