How much is "Shishis ha'Eifah"?

1.

Rashi: This refers to a sixth of a Yerushalmi Eifah; it equals a fifth of an Eifah of the Midbar 1 .

1

Menachos 76b: Five Yerushalmi Sa'im equal six Sa'im of the Midbar (and likewise Yerushalmi Eifos are a sixth bigger - PF).

2)

Is the entire sixth of an Eifah for Minchas ha'Tamid?

1.

Rashi: No. It is two [Midbar] Esronim. One is for Minchah of the Tamid, and the other is for Chavitim (the Kohen Gadol's daily Minchah). The latter is a full Isaron; half is offered in the morning [and half in the afternoon ? Menachos 50b].

2.

Radak (13): Yes. The Shi'ur will be different in the future.

3.

Malbim: This is the Shi'ur for the Minchah of the lamb offered each morning of Chinuch.

3)

What is the significance of a third of a Hin of oil?

1.

Malbim: Really, a sixth of a Hin should be brought for a sixth of an Eifah ? a Hin is brought for an Eifah (5, 7)! Double is brought, in order to soften the Soles with much oil 1 .

1

The Torah says to mix an Isaron of Soles with a quarter Hin of oil for a lamb (two and a half Hinim per Eifah), and one and two thirds Hinim per an Eifah for a ram or bull. Here it is two Hinim per Eifah - softer than the latter, but harder than the former. (PF)

4)

What is the meaning of "Laros"?

1.

Rashi #1: To press or mix. Radak ? he mixes it with oil, like the Torah said "Belulah b'Shamen" (Bamidbar 28:5). Also Yonason translates so. Laros is an expression of sprinkling, like "Resisei Laylah" (Shir ha'Shirim 5:2).

2.

Rashi #2: This is [cracked,] like "v'Hikah ha'Bayis ha'Gadol Resisim" (Amos 6:11). A Mishnah (Shabbos 80b) says, if [a reed] is thick or Merusas (cracked, and improper for a quill...)

5)

Why does it say "Minchah la'Shem Chukas Olam Tamid"?

1.

Malbim: What we explained until now is only for Mitzvas Chinuch, which is temporary. Other than this, he brings the Minchah for Hashem that is permanent, e.g. Minchas ha'Tamid like the Torah specified.
