What is the significance of carrying it to Shin'ar to build for it a house?

1.

Rashi: Yisrael were exiled to Bavel for 70 years, and now they returned.

2.

Radak: This is like Yirmeyahu said "Arukah Hi Benu Batim v'Shevu 1 " (29:28).

3.

Malbim: This is why Bayis [Sheni] will be destroyed and Yisrael will be exiled again - because many Jews remained in Bavel. The reason why they stayed is because Bavel is a people of the Eifah (flattery and haughtiness).

It will be a long Galus, therefore it is prudent to build houses. (PF)

What is the meaning of "v'Huchan v'Hunichah Sham [Al Mechunasah]"?

1.

Rashi: The house was prepared and the Eifah was placed in the house with the Resha'im inside it.

2.

Radak: Their dwelling was prepared there - they built houses and fixed their residence there. This caused them to be lazy and not ascend from Bavel with Ezra. They remained, and did not want to ascend even after they began to build the Bayis. Hunichah is a compound word, from Henichah (Hif'il conjugation) and Hunachah (Pa'al). Initially when they were exiled there, Hunachah (it was against their will). Afterwards, Henichah - she decided to remain there, and slackened from ascending to Yerushalayim.

3.

Malbim: The Eifah (flattery and haughtiness) will rest there, for that is the base of its residence 1 .
