Malbim: His first answer, that the afflictions are to atone for a small sin, he received via Nevu'ah. What he said now, that they are to save from future evil, is not primary - he knows it only via investigation.

Why did he say "v'Atah Da Lecha"?

Devar Eliyahu: You yourself know!

Malbim: Since I know that only via investigation, one who hears it may investigate for himself; he need not accept it. Investigate it with your understanding, to know whether it is proper in your eyes!
