He commanded to bring Kelim of gold and silver. Why did they bring only of gold?
Malbim: Belshatzar wanted to use both Kelim of gold and silver, even though the former were used inside, and the latter were not used inside 1 . This shows that he considered them Klei Hedyot. His officers and servants considered them Klei Beis Elokim. They brought only the gold, which is used inside Lifnei Hashem, to show that their idolatry defeated Him.
What is the source for this distinction? Every day Ketores was offered on a gold pan, just on Yom Kipur, even the coals were taken from the outer Mizbe'ach in a gold pan. They brought blood to the outer Mizbe'ach in buckets of gold and of silver (Pesachim 5:5)! (PF)
