What is the meaning of "ha'Umnam"?
'Rashi': This is said in astonishment. (Can one believe that Elokim will dwell on the ground?? Rather, You constricted Your Shechinah due to Your promise to David. Radak ? can this be?! (Can You be contained in a place?!)
Malbim: Through fulfilling Your promise to David, it is possible for You to dwell primarily below! Refer to Melachim I, 8:27:2:1.
What is the meaning of "Yeshev Elokim Es ha'Adam"?
Malbim: He will dwell with people, amidst Bnei Yisrael.
Why did Shlomo build the Beis ha'Mikdash?
'Rashi': It was to pray in front of Hashem, and He will turn to our prayers (verse 19).
'Rashi' (19): It was to bring the Shechinah down to dwell on the land, to hear, from Your dwelling place, prayers said in it (verse 21).
Radak: No place can contain You ? You are the place of the world! The Bayis is like a metaphor, that Your desire and honor should be in it, to hear prayers in it.
