Who fathered Beri'ah?

1.

Redak: Efrayim.

2.

Malbim: Shuselach. The Torah (Bamidbar 26:36) reversed the letters Reish Ayin of his name, for the good. It called him Iran, and not Er, lest he be confused with Yehudah's Bechor. "V'Eleh Bnei Shuselach" hints that only Iran and his sons survived; all the others were killed.

2)

Why did he say "b'Ra'ah Haysah b'Veiso"?

1.

Redak: From when (Ralbag - when) he married her, this evil happened to him, that Anshei Gas killed his sons 1 .

2.

Vilna Gaon The birth was at a bad time.

I.e. Beri'ah was named after this episode. Yehoshua, the ninth generation from him (23-27), was 56 at Yetzi'as Mitzrayim (Ibn Ezra Shemos 33:11 proves so). How did Radak say above (21) that it occurred when Yisrael were in the Midbar or in Gil'ad?! Refer to 7:21:2:1*. (PF)
