How will He reverse their festivals to mourning?
Rashi: "V'Chol Yehudah vi'Yrushalayim Mis'abelim Al Yoshiyah 1 " (Divrei ha'Yamim II, 35:24).
Malbim: During the festival, we do not mourn over the past, only over something current or for the future.
Divrei ha'Yamim II, Perek 35 discusses Pesach, and it says "Acharei Chol Zos... Alah Necho" (35:20). Rashi explains like the opinion in Bereishis Rabah 44:5 that Acharei means soon after, and Achar is much later; the other opinion explains oppositely. (PF)
Do we find that their song was Kinah (lamentation)?
Rashi: Yes - "va'Yomeru Chol ha'Sharim veha'Sharos b'Kinoseihem" (Divrei ha'Yamim II, 35:25). Malbim - Kinah is only over the past.
What is the significance of wearing sackcloth?
Malbim: This is for prayer and fasting over a current or future affliction.
Why do people make a Karachah (tear out hair)?
Malbim: This is amidst grief over a past tragedy.
What is "Evel Yachid"?
Rashi: Like a father mourning over his only son. Radak - this is a great mourning. Malbim - no one remains to be consolation for him!
What do we learn from "v'Acharisah k'Yom Mar"?
Brachos 16b: Aveilus (mourning) on the night after death is only mid'Rabanan -- "v'Acharisah k'Yom Mar" (mid'Oraisa, it is only during the day).
Mo'ed Katan 21a: The primary Aveilus is on the first day. The Avel may wear Tefilin on the second day.
Zevachim 100b: All agree that Aninus lasts the entire day [of death, even after burial].
Radak: This is like "k'Evel Yachid"; the matter is repeated in different words.
Malbim: If one's son died, he is consoled that he himself is alive. "Its end is like the day of death" - then all hope is lost!
