Why does it say "Karmi Sheli Lefanai"?

1.

Rashi: On the day of judgment, Hashem will bring [the kingdoms] to judgment, and say 'My vineyard - even though I handed it over in your hands, it was Mine. In front of Me came everything that you grabbed for yourselves. What you collected from them is not withheld from Me!'

2.

Seforno: Hashem says, Chachamim of the generation who are Mine and see My face, they did not strive to increase clusters; they have few Talmidim.

3.

Malbim (Melitzah): This great vineyard is mine. The reward for Torah and Avodah, Ru'ach acquires it. Via it, it endures forever, and acquired intellect becomes Ne'etzal intellect. Formless Ru'ach becomes Ru'ach Kadosh that lives forever, just like the Neshamah. This is in the reward of the vineyard that Shlomo (the body) acquired via his Avodah and Torah. It stands in front of Me - "v'Halach Lefanecha Tzidkecha" (Yeshayah 58:8).

4.

Malbim (Mashal): Shlomo gave this vineyard to me because I was like one who finds Shalom in his eyes.

2)

Does "Shlomo" refer to Shlomo ha'Melech?

1.

Refer to 1:4:1:1 and the note there.

3)

What do we learn from "ha'Elef Lecha Shlomo"?

1.

Rashi: The kingdoms say, the 1000 silver pieces that we collected from them - we will return everything.

2.

Seforno: The Chachamim respond, we cannot increase like You desire. Only You can do so!

3.

Malbim (Melitzah): Also Shlomo (the body and its powers) who toiled in the vineyard, and engaged in Torah and Avodah, their reward will not be denied. They will rest in their sleep in the grave, and stand [to receive] their portion at Ketz ha'Yamin. The reward for the fruits of the vineyard - Mitzvos and good deeds - will be also for the body and the lower Nefesh.

4.

Malbim (Mashal): She retracts, and says 'I do not want to keep this vineyard for myself. Rather, the 1000 silver pieces that they brought for wages of the vineyard will be to you, Shlomo.

4)

What are "u'Masayim l'Noterim Es Piryo"?

1.

Rashi #1: [The kingdoms say, we will return what we collected, and] we will add much of our own and give it to their leaders and Chachamim - "Ki la'Yoshevim Lifnei Hashem Yihyeh Sachrah", and the original wealth of Tzor (Yeshayah 23:18).

2.

Rashi #2: This is like the law of one who benefits from Hekdesh. He pays principal and Chomesh. Also we (kingdoms) will pay for "Kodesh Yisrael la'Shem Reishis Tevu'aso" (Yirmeyah 2:3). The Chomesh of 1000 is 200 1 .

3.

Seforno: We could not establish 1000 [Talmidim,] like You wanted. We strove to establish a small amount (200), which was within our ability.

4.

Malbim (Melitzah, citing Midrash ha'Nelam, Chayei Sarah 124): Every Tzadik who engages in Torah, he has 200 worlds, and money for the Torah.

5.

Malbim (Mashal): I will return the 200 proper to give to the guards of the vineyard, for I do not want to benefit from it.

1

Perush Rashi Mefurash citing b'Shem Efrayim: Even though we hold that Chomesh is an inner Chomesh (a quarrel of the principal), in Tanach, Rashi often explains what is closest to the simple meaning, even if the Halachah does not follow it.
