Was all their evil in Gilgal?!

1.

Rashi: There they served much idolatry on Bamos, for initially the Mishkan was there. Nevi'ei ha'Ba'al told them that it is a choice place 1 . It was under the authority of Malchei Yisrael.

2.

Radak: There they were Mechadesh the kingship, and despised Me from ruling over them.

3.

Malbim: The Navi explains that the Galus is not only due to Zenus. In Gilgal they did other evils - idolatry, murder and other abominations.

1

Radak: It says "ba'Gilgal Shevarim Zibechu" (12:12).

Why will He expel them from His house?

1.

Radak: They despised Me and My Avodah, and chose to serve other gods. Even if they will want to return and serve Me in it, they will not be able to. It will be destroyed because they sinned greatly.

2.

Malbim: I do not want them to be in the house in the land that I gave to them to dwell in it. This is like one who hates his wife for her bad deeds, and expels her from his house. He no longer gives to her residence and food.

3)

What is the meaning of "Lo Osef Ahavasam"?

1.

Rashi: I will no longer love them. Radak - "Ahavasam" is Makor (infinitive). Malbim - therefore, there is no hope that I will return to be appeased with them.

4)

How were their officers Sorerim?

1.

Radak: The officers who should rebuke them and return them to the good path, they were wayward. How can I hope that [Efrayim] will repent?! This is why I will no longer love them.

2.

Malbim: The officers make them stray from the [proper] path.
