What does the Torah mean when it states that the magicians were not able to stand before Moshe?

Ramban: It means (not that they could not be summoned to the palace [refer to 8:15:1:1*], rather) that, due to the great embarrassment of being covered with boils, 1 they closeted themselves in their homes, in order to avoid being seen by Moshe either in the palace or even in the street.

2.

Hadar Zekenim (to 9:8): Moshe was esteemed in their eyes and they would have stood before him, but boils are often on the knees and thighs, so that they were unable to stand.

Ramban: Inasmuch as they were not even able to cure themselves.
