What did Daniel confess about?

1.

Rashi: The sins of his nation.

2.

Malbim: His own sin. One must vindicate himself before he can pray for the Klal.

2)

What is the meaning of "Ana"?

1.

Ibn Ezra: This is like Emnam (indeed), "Ana Hashem Ki Ani Avdecha", "Ana Chata ha'Am ha'Zeh."

2.

Ibn Ezra citing ha'Nagid: It is a contraction of two words ? Al and Na. Al is like Ho'il (since); the Lamed is swallowed, like in Yukach 1 .

1

Ibn Ezra: There is no need to say so.

3)

Why did he say "ha'Kel ha'Gadol veha'Nora"?

1.

Malbim: He showed that he does not doubt Hashem's ability to redeem them at the promised time. Gadol shows that He is the first and last Cause. Nora shows that He has Hashgachah Pratis and ability over every matter.

4)

The Torah says also Gibor. Why did Daniel omit this?

1.

Rashi (from Yuma 69b): He said, idolaters subjugate His children - where is His Gevurah 1 ?!

1

Emes l'Yakov (Yuma 69b, based on Moreh ha'Nevuchim 1:52): The descriptions of Hashem refer to His actions, but not to Him Himself. We may mention only His Midos that we see them fulfilled.

5)

Why did he mention that Hashem is "Shomer ha'Bris veha'Chesed"?

1.

Malbim: This shows that He wants to guard His promise. However, this is only "l'Ohavav ul'Shomerei Mitzvosav" ? if they guard the Bris.
