What do we learn from "Moshe v'Aharon b'Chohanav u'Shmuel b'Kor'ei Shmo"?

1.

Brachos 31b: Chanah requested, "Zera Anashim". She bore Shmuel, who was equated to Moshe and Aharon

2.

Radak: Moshe and Aharon were the greatest Kohanim 1 , and Shmuel was the greatest Navi in his time. It mentions Shmuel, for he was from the family of Moshe and Aharon, and a Navi like them. Perhaps he was greater than the other Nevi'im after Moshe. Yirmeyah (15:1) said "Im Ya'amod Moshe u'Shmuel Lefanai."

3.

Radak (citing a Midrash): What is written about Moshe is written about Shmuel. Both were Leviyim., both sang Shirah, both were king over all of Yisrael and Yehudah, both reigned 40 years 2 , both made wars, both killed kings, both built Mizbechos, both offered, and Hashem called to both - "va'Yikra Hashem l'Moshe" (Shemos 19:20), "Vayikra Hashem El Shmuel" (Shmuel I, 3:4).

4.

Malbim: When Moshe and Aharon were found among His Kohanim, and Shmuel was found among Kor'ei Shmo. I.e. when Yisrael are at a level that the Shechinah dwells on them wondrously, and there are found Kohanim like Moshe and Aharon, that it seems that the Kohanim cling to Elokim like Moshe and Aharon, and Kor'ei Shmo are like Shmuel, whom Hashem answers. I.e. when Shmuel called "Ketzir Chitim ha'Yom Ekra El Hashem...: (Shmuel I, 12:17). So they call to Hashem, and He answers them.

1

Radak: It says about Moshe b'Chohanav, for he served as a Kohen during the seven days of the Milu'im. Shocher Tov expounds from here that all 40 years in the Midbar, Moshe served as a Kohen Gadol when he wanted to. Another opinion there says "u'Moshe... Banav Yikre'u Al Shevet ha'Levi" (Divrei ha'Yamim I, 23:14) - he was called a Kohen, but his sons are called Leviyim.

2

This is difficult. Shmuel reigned only after Eli died, when Shmuel was 40, and he lived only 12 years after this! Radak himself (Shmuel I, 12:2) says that Shmuel ruled [only] 11 years. All that Radak cited is in Midrash Shmuel 9:5, except for reigning for 40 years. A Hagahah in the Bubar edition says that '40 years' in some editions of the Midrash should be omitted. Perhaps the text of Radak should say 'Ben Arba'im'; this is like the opinion that Moshe fled Egypt at the age of 40, and became king of Kush for 40 years. (PF)

2)

What is the meaning of "Kor'ei Shmo"?

1.

Radak: They are Nevi'im. Whenever they called to Hashem, He answered them.

3)

Why is there no vowel under the Aleph in "Korim"?

1.

Radak: We find like this. There is no vowel under the Aleph in "Chotim" (Shmuel I, 14:33).
