1)

What is this Pasuk coming to teach us?

1.

Rashi: It comes to permit the bird of a Metzora 1 that is sent away. 2

2.

Targum Yonasan: Refer to 14:11:2:1.

3.

Oznayim la'Torah: Refer to 14:3:1:4.

1

See Sifsei Chachamim and Torah Temimah, note 22.

2)

Seeing as the word "Tzipor" implies Tahor species of birds, why does the Torah insert the (otherwise superfluous) word "Tehorah"?

1.

Chulin, 140a: In order to extrapolate that there is a 'Tzipor Tehorah' that is subject to an Asei - to preclude the Shechted bird of a Metzora, 1 which is Asur.

1

Refer to 14:11:1:1 and to 14:11:12:1.

3)

What is the definition of a Tzipor Tehorah?

1.

Targum Yonasan: One that has a crop, whose craw (stomach) can be peeled easily, that has an extra claw and is not Doreis. 1

1

It holds its prey in its claw whilst eating it or it eats its prey alive - Bartenura Chulin, 3:). See also Na'ar Yonasan.
